Medicare Supplement Plans
Medicare supplement plans, also known as Medigap plans, work with Original Medicare to help pay your medical costs.
Is a Medicare supplement plan right for me?
Medicare Part A covers most hospital expenses, and Part B covers some medical expenses. But you're still left with out-of-pocket expenses to pay.
With a Medicare supplement plan from Excellus BlueCross BlueShieldUnivera Healthcare you have peace of mind knowing that most of the out-of-pocket expenses left by Original Medicare are taken care of. That's reliable coverage you can depend on.
The Medicare supplement plan might be a good choice if you:
- Travel often or live in different regions for parts of the year and need to visit doctors everywhere. With a Medicare supplement plan, you'll have the peace of mind that your coverage is accepted by doctors that take Medicare nationwide.
- Want less paperwork. Medicare supplement plans have automatic claims filing – which means no paperwork for you.
- Want your choice of doctors. Any doctor who accepts Medicare will accept your plan – and you don’t need a referral to see specialists.
- Have challenging health needs and need coverage for as many costs as possible. A Medicare supplement plan gives you the security of knowing out-of-pocket costs for Medicare-covered services will be limited.
- Need financial stability where your out-of-pocket costs are predictable.
Medicare supplement plans do NOT include
Prescription drug coverage
If you require prescription coverage, you will need to purchase a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (Part D) in addition to a Medicare supplement plan.
If you are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan and enroll in a Prescription Drug Plan (PDP), you will be automatically disenrolled from your Medicare Advantage Plan.
Dental care
New dental plans that offer comprehensive dental coverage for a low monthly premium.
Product availability is not limited to individuals who purchase Medicare supplement plans from the health plan.
Is a Medicare Advantage plan a better fit for me?
Medicare Advantage plans combine Part A & Part B into a single plan.
Part A
Helps pay for hospital stays and inpatient care
Part B
Helps pay for doctors visits and outpatient care
Medicare Advantage plans generally include copays and/or coinsurance for benefits. They usually have prescription drugs, preventative dental services, and routine vision and hearing services that are not included in Medicare supplement plans.
