Flu Vaccine Update

On January 12, 2013, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo declared a public health emergency for all of New York state in response to the severe flu season. The Executive Order allows pharmacists to administer flu vaccinations for a 30-day period to individuals between six months and 18 years of age. Pharmacists are normally limited by state law to administer vaccines only to people 18 years of age and older.

All commercial members age six months and up may obtain a flu vaccine at any network pharmacy. While flu vaccines are covered under the medical benefit, network pharmacies are able to submit claims directly to our drug claims processing vendor, MedImpact.

Members can go to virtually any pharmacy in New York state and other states where pharmacists are authorized to administer vaccines. Members can also obtain Zostavax (shingles) vaccines at these pharmacies.

If your company would like to host an onsite flu vaccine clinic for your employees, our affiliate, Sibley Nursing, is able to come to your workplace. For more information, contact Lucy Forte at (585) 339-5970 or by email to Lucy.Forte@sibleynursing.com

*If you are not sure whether the flu shot is covered at a specific location, you should call the number on the back of your ID card to check.
