New York State Ostomy Equipment and Supplies Mandate

Effective January 1, 2015, in accordance with the New York State Ostomy Equipment and Supplies mandate, Univera Healthcare will cover ostomy equipment and supplies for its commercial lines of business, subject to applicable cost-sharing (copayments/deductibles and coinsurance), when the equipment and/or supplies are prescribed by a physician. Ostomy equipment and supplies are provided under members’ medical benefit.

While this is a new mandate, it is important to note that many of our benefit plans already include this coverage; therefore this will impact few employers. If your benefit plan does not currently include coverage for ostomy equipment and supplies, you will be contacted directly.

Important note: Implementation of this mandate applies to policies issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2015.  If your employees have any questions about this mandate and their coverage, please direct them to contact Customer Care.
